The theory on not being where you want to be

Have you ever sat down and you’re at work and you’ve been working at the place for like 10 years and you just feel that nothing is changing and you don’t really know what to do to get it back to where it was.

Now I’m not talking about the people that are happy where they are in life and they aren’t chasing the hussle and bussle of corporate jobs or a dream of having their own business someday.

I am talking about the people who are sitting in a position and they want to be in a higher position, but they’ve actually done nothing to put themselves in the position for management to see them (No, I am not saying suck up to anybody).

I’ve come to the theory that to get where you want to be in life, you need to make your goals clear.

There’s a lot of people that’s listening to millionaire podcasts that try to explain to you how to do it and how to fix your career and where you are now is not where we want to be and, and, and, it’s a lot of bullshit if you ask me because from where they are sitting it’s easy to tell you how to do it, but sometimes forget that they might’ve had it easy or they forget how hard they really had to work to get there and they forget about the relationships they had to leave behind.

I honestly think if you want to become something and you really don’t want to be in the position that you are anymore you can do two things.

You can go to your manager and you can explain to them your situation, explain to them where you want to be in life, and ask the question on where you can move to, to be in the reffered position.

They will either tell you that you need to just give it time, they will make up some sorry excuse for the reason why promoting you is not going be in your near future.

This can be anything from:

- the fact that you are working remotely and you’re not close enough to the head office

- it can be selfish that they don’t want to loose you in the position that you are

- they can tell you; we see that it can sometimes become too much for you and we realise that in order for us to promote you, you will need to be able to handle more responsibilities then what you are currently used to.

These statements can all be signs of them indirectly telling you that you not the right person for a management position, they’re just trying to be nice to you. They are basically trying to explain away the fact that you were honest and unhappy about the where you are in their company. Look. Don’t get me wrong some people can’t be managers, you get leaders and you get followers and I know that sounds harsh but that’s just the way life works.

If you are a follower you will always be a follower unless you get yourself out of a following position and show you have the capability to lead people. You also need to realise that there’s a possible reason why you are a follower, because it also doesn’t help that your employer puts you in a Leading position and you fuck it up badly.

This is just me rambling on about how I think it’s important for an employer to rather be honest with the employee in telling them when they think you need more training / you are not ready for the bigger responsibility.

In conclusion, people like leaders, people don’t like dictators. People like management / leaders, who will work with them when they’re too busy to handle everything by themselves. People want management who will be able to stand up for them and with that also work with him towards the bigger picture.

This is my opinion and maybe I am wrong that’s just my opinion.

To get to the actual point is that if you want something you need to work for it you need to make your goals clear for everyone to see because your perception and my perception can be different. If you’ve made your goals clear and you’ve told them that this is what you want to do and you’ve explained to them how you will get there, and they don’t give you a chance then that is a sign to get the fuck out. Rather go to a place where you will be able to grow in your own pace and in your own way. Go to a place that will see your worth and fucking pay you for what you worth, because it’s so often that I see people unhappy in the positions they are in and too scared to “man up” and take a chance.

So bottom of the story go for what you want, it might look scary because it always is to make a big decision it’s always scary to get your things in order to make a move even if it’s to another company, another city or continent but honestly, I think if you don’t want to be in the situation that you are in now go and look at it and do something about it. I can guarantee you your friends are sick of listening to you bitching and moaning about not being where you want to be i life and you doing absolutely nothing to change the situation and you will see the difference in your life.
